The NJBIZ Forty Under 40 awards program celebrates the state’s most accomplished young businessmen and women who have been making headlines in their field and who share a commitment to business growth, professional excellence and to the community. This year, NJBIZ announced five winners in each of eight different major industries. Chris was chosen specifically in the accounting industry.

Chris has more than 11 years’ experience providing audit and tax services to a diverse range of clients including nonprofit organizations, closely-held businesses and large corporations in the construction and real estate industries. He works closely with clients to increase profitability and achieve financial goals. Chris is in charge of the firm’s construction services niche providing guidance and professional insight into all accounting and auditing issues including preparation and review of work in progress schedules, financial statement presentation and disclosure requirements.

Chris is certified by Intuit in QuickBooks and Enterprise V7 and earned the esteemed Certified Construction Industry Financial Professionals (CCIFP®) designation from The Institute of Certified Construction Industry Financial Professionals in 2012. He is also a licensed Certified Public Accountant, as well as a licensed Public School Accountant.

Chris is a member of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the New Jersey Builders Association (NJBA), the Shore Builders Association of Central New Jersey (SBACNJ), the Utility and Transportation Contractors Association (UTCA), the Construction Financial Management Association (CMFA), and the Institute of Certified Construction Industry Financial Professionals (ICCIFP). Chris is also a board member for local nonprofit, Shred Out Cancer.

In 2016, Chris was recognized as a Finest Young Professional by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. In 2015, he graduated from the Emerging Leaders Academy leadership program, a three-year leadership development program for emerging leaders in accounting firms. He was also honored by the United Way of Ocean County as one of 2012’s Young Altruistic Professionals for his community service and philanthropy. In 2011, Chris was named to the first, prestigious 30 under 30 list compiled by the NJCPA and published in NJCPA Magazine.

A frequent speaker for accounting and finance associations at universities throughout New Jersey, Chris discusses career opportunities in the accounting profession with students. He has written and recorded recruiting podcasts, as well as various articles for publication. Chris also manages Cowan, Gunteski & Co., P.A.’s Young Professionals Group, an organization dedicated to the professional and personal growth of up-and-coming business leaders in New Jersey. Chris graduated from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.
